Lady Hike at Cape Split: Scenery from the Trail

Last Sunday was a special day.

Over the past year or so I've managed to wrangle a pretty amazing group of friends, and we all bring something very unique to the table. Through these women I've been introduced to new ideas and experiences, and they've given me friendship that is free of judgment or competition. We've also been building a great network of forward-thinking, feminist women.

Now that I'm done gushing (for the moment), I have a question: When you have a group of bad-ass feminists at your fingertips, what do you do?

You go on a hike.

Our chosen location was Cape Split, which was extra-special for me because I've never been.
We had a bit of a drive from Yarmouth- about three hours. And on the way we had a chance to flex our independent lady powers: we got a flat tire. Luckily one of my friends is capable and determined, and she changed it for us before we took a quick detour to switch cars and went along our merry way- meeting some others who came from Halifax.

The trail was a bit more challenging than I was expecting, but the sweat was completely worth it.

There were a lot of sweet sights along the way that I had to stop and capture:

Tiny faerie mushroom houses along the trail

We were lucky to have great weather for the whole day- the weather reports were calling for chances of rain, but we enjoyed sunshine and a cool breeze.

As we got closer to our destination, we caught glimpses of the ocean through the trees.

Pretty wild flowers.

The hike took about an hour and a half each way, and when we got to the top the view was magnificent.

First impressions of the view (also pictured: tire-changing bad-ass).

The split

As we sat and ate our lunch, we noticed a bald eagle circling overhead.

When we were finally back at the beginning, we were all sweaty and sore, but we were also feeling accomplished.
